Which Listings Most Frequently Result in Favorable Decisions?

As a rule, listings that describe medical conditions which can be documented by objective testing most frequently result in favorable decisions.  An informal survey among disability lawyers suggests that the following listings most frequently generate quick approvals:

Listing 1 – Musculoskeletal

1.05 – Amputation of a leg

1.08 – severe burns on face, torso or legs

Listing 2 – Special Senses

2.01 – legal blindness

2.10 – deafness

Listing 3 – Respiratory System

3.02 – chronic pulmonary insufficiency

3.04 – cystic fibrosis

3.11 – lung transplant

Listing 4 – Cardiovascular System

4.o2 – chronic heart failure

4.09 – heart transplant

4.11 – chronic venous insufficiency of lower extremity

Listing 5 – Digestive System

5.05 – chronic liver disease with hemorrhaging

5.06 – inflammatory bowel disease with blockages

5.09 – liver transplant

Listing 6 – Genitourinary Impairments

6.02 – kidney transplant or persistent elevation of serum creatinine

6.02 – persistent anorexia

6.06 – nephrotic syndrome with elevated serum albumin or elevated proteinuria

Listing 7 – Hematological Disorders

7.05 – sickle cell disease – severe, as documented by lab reports

7.06 – intracranial bleeding within 12 months

7.06 – hemophelia

7.17 – aplastic anemia

Listing 8 – Skin Disorders

8.08 – burns

Listing 9 – Endocrine Disorders – Pituitary gland disorders, thyroid gland disorders, uncontrolled Type I diabetes with complications evaluated under other Listing categories

Listing 10 – Congenital Disorders that Affect Multiple Body Systems

10.06 – Down syndrome or chromosome 21 translocation

Listing 11 – Neurological

11.02 – epilepsy with grand mal seizures, uncontrolled

11.04 – stroke

11.05 – brain tumors

11.06 – Parkinsonian Syndrome

11.07 – Cerebral Palsy

11.08 – spinal cord lesions

11.10 – ALS

11.13 – muscular dystrophy

Listing 12 – Mental Disorders

12.10 – autistic disorder

Listing 13 – Neoplastic Diseases (cancers) – almost any cancer with metastases; any cancer that is inoperable

Listing 14 – Immune System Disorders

14.08 – HIV that is unresponsive to therapy and/or resulted in multiple opportunistic infections
